A productive weekend

This weekend was the first weekend in a long time that I feel like I’ve finally been able to get started catching up with life.  It’s weird — it was an action-packed over-scheduled weekend but I got so much done.

Friday: Dinner with a friend and a new friend.  Shopping for the fourth of July camping trip.  Backed up my laptop and put all of my music (including Lemonade!!) on my phone.  Wiped my computer (on purpose).  Caught up on a pile of comics.

Saturday: I made brunch for a bunch of friends.  I made scrambled eggs, bacon, potatoes, whipped cream, chocolate waffles, and regular waffles.  Mark made mimosas, and his friend Alex made French toast.  We had a pajama-wearing Con Man watching party.  It was awesome.

After that, I installed El Capitan on my laptop, replaced all of my files, and then got my dot files all fancy and organized on my computer.  It’s such a nice feeling having my development environment perfect for ruby and iOS dev.

I bought the rest of the camping supplies I needed off Amazon (uhhh camping is hella expensive).  I got down to under ten emails in my inbox, and they’re mostly all about conference talks and the Google Women Techmakers group that I’m starting.  I also continued to compile stuff for my talk on unconscious bias for Asynchrony’s internal conference.  I have some cool creative ideas as inspired by some people I follow on Twitter, but I’m nervous I’m not creative enough to actually follow through with my ideas!

Sunday: I finally finished painting Mark’s birthday card.  I know, I’m three months late on it.  Every year, I paint him a Magic: The Gathering birthday card.  This year, I was super overwhelmed with the wedding, surgery, honeymoon, and recovery from all of these that I delayed the painting.  Luckily, Mark was super understanding.

I went to a super awesome birthday party for a super cool little kiddo.  She asked her parents for a Star Wars birthday party so that’s what she got!  Her parents’ had a friend who made a BB8 cake that was phenomenal.  I got another chance to wear my Darth Vader dress from Halloween. The party was full of punny snacks like 7 Leia Dip, Luke Skywater, Yoda Soda, Wookie Crisps, and AT-iced tea.

I went to the outlet malls afterwards while still wearing my Darth Vader dress!  I’ve never had so many people talk to me while shopping.  I couldn’t tell if people were mocking me or not, but I decided before I stepped out of my car that I didn’t care.  I had many cashiers tell me that they too were nerds but were in the closet.

Mark and I went out to dinner with a friend.  I made a pineapple upside-down cake for the birthday of a team member tomorrow.  I cleaned my desk.  I finally read all of the blogposts from the past three months on my RSS feed.  And… I started writing back my numerous pen pals.

I’m trying to get back into the swing of blog posts every week.  I got in my head at some time that all of my posts needed to be well-written and interesting which is exactly against the reason I wanted to have a blog in the first place.  Luckily I got over that!  I’m hoping that this will be the start to writing a lot again.
